My name is Adrienne and I am the Founder and Director of Academic Success Partners. I take great pride in my work and love what I do! My career began in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I attended the University of Michigan where I received my Bachelor's degree in English, Language & Literature. While at UofM, I worked with America Reads Tutoring Corps, where I was extensively trained to be a reading and writing tutor specialist working with socio-economically disadvantaged youth. Over the past twenty years I’ve gained valuable experience working with children and adults with a variety of learning styles, including children with learning disabilities, across the content areas. In addition, I completed a Masters in Education program at Oakland University and taught middle school for many years. Education is my passion and it would be my greatest pleasure to help you or your child find confidence in learning!
I have brought together an incredible team of multi-talented teachers to work with Academic Success Partners. They all bring strengths and great understanding of children that they can apply to their role as a one-on-one tutor.

NATALIE
Hello! My name is Natalie. I am a middle school special education teacher in Birmingham. Being a teacher is what I was meant to do. I struggled in school when I was younger, I just couldn’t keep up and was a C average student. It wasn’t until college that I really started to find my place in the academic world. It took a lot of great professors and hard work, but I actually made it onto the Deans list for a GPA of 3.5 or higher each semester until I graduated. Now I want to make sure that all students know they aren’t stupid, they may just need help learning the material in a different way.
I graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in May 2015 with a degree in elementary education and special education with an endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder. While at SVSU I was a member of the equestrian team and I also was president of the TOMS campus clubs. TOMS is a one-for-one brand, every pair of shoes or glasses you buy another pair goes to a child in need. My favorite part of the education program at Saginaw Valley is the amount of field experience that is integrated within its classes. I had 10-30 hours of field experience per class, which meant that most of my course work was completed in actual classrooms working with real students. This hands-on approach allowed me to work with a variety of different students in a variety of different environments. I wasn’t in a lecture hall reading case studies, I was actually in classrooms working side by side with different teachers grades K-12 learning how to implement the concepts we were being taught in our classes.
When I am not working I am either spending time with my family or doing something outdoors with my boyfriend and our dog. Family is extremely important to me, without them I wouldn’t be half the person I am today! My parents taught me from a young age that quitting isn’t an option, you can do anything you really set your mind too. You may have to change the way you get there, but you can always reach your goals if you try hard enough!

WES
My name is Wes and I began working with children right out of high school at the YMCA camp. I was working with three to five-year olds. That was the most tired I have ever been in my life. I enjoyed every minute of it, but wow, they are energetic. I learned the basic elements of group safety and interacting with peers and smaller children. I then worked at the Jewish Community Center which is the largest camp I have ever been a part of. It is also my first interaction with inclusive practices with special education students. It is a teen group that had a ratio of one to four when it came to special needs to general education students. This was another amazing experience for me to help my students be included with their peers. The next position that I had cemented my calling, to become a teacher. Being in a Learning Resource room taught me how to modify and see patterns in my students. This helped me assess where students specifically needed support by breaking down the process of learning. I am currently pursuing my goal at Wayne State University getting my degree in Elementary Education and Cognitively Impaired Education. I am completing my student teaching in a General Education setting in Ferndale Upper Elementary. When I am not working, I walk my 105 lb. chocolate Labrador and spend time at home with my wife. We also are expecting our first child in July! I look forward to helping your child find success in learning.

MEKA
My name is Meka and I’m new to Michigan, all the way from Ohio. I studied Special Education and earned my teaching certificate at the University of Cincinnati and taught for 3 years in Clermont County, Ohio with students with multiple disabilities and severe autism. In 2012, I got married and moved to Chicago where I taught for 5 years. There I created and taught a modified 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade common core math curriculum, and co-taught 7th and 8th grade math and language arts in the general education setting.
I am currently a resource teacher at Berkley High School. Before moving to Michigan, I was working on becoming highly qualified in middle school math, taking math courses at the University of Chicago. I am one class and a test away from that certification, but am planning on completing the course work and tests necessary to become highly qualified in high school math. I have an extensive knowledge of the 7th and 8th grade math common core curriculum; working as the instruction specialist with an expert 7th and 8th grade math teacher to create a 7th and 8th grade curriculum for general education students and students with learning disabilities. Not do I only have the knowledge of the content, but I also have a grab bag of different strategies to support student with different learning styles. While I am highly qualified in reading and reading instruction, I love to teach math!

TOM
Hello and welcome to Academic Success Partners. My name is Tom and I am proud to be part of this team in order to provide services for students to earn all that they are capable of academically. I am a lifelong resident of Southeastern Michigan and graduate of the University of Michigan. While I originally began a career in communications, my passion has always been working with young people from days as a camp counselor while in high school. Once I realized that was my calling and vocation, I completed a Master of Arts in Teaching degree with a major in mathematics and minor in English.
Teaching has taken me to public school, charter school and private school – all for math and English at the secondary level. I have also provided individualized tutoring, study skills and summer enrichment programs for students of all ages. I recently made my daily teaching into a “flipped” classroom in order to provide more resources for students. More importantly, this allows me to work more directly with the students so I can connect with them, which is why I have a passion for teaching. My goal for all students is to develop their problem solving strategies and ability to apply learning to real world scenarios.
When I am not pursuing my responsibilities as an educator, I further my mission by coaching sports as a means to reach young people in meaningful ways. Personally, I enjoy being outdoors and traveling, especially road trips, with my wife and kids. More of my free time is spent playing and watching sports, along with my new hobby as a BBQ smoking enthusiast. I look forward to all the challenges and opportunities ahead in assisting people to make it a great day, every day.

NICK
Nick has loved learning since childhood and transformed this love into a passion for further educating the future generations. Nick graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2016 with a M.Ed. in Secondary Education and B.S. in Biology. Not only has he spent extensive time working with students as part of his program, he has also been a private tutor for the past 11 years.
While working with students, Nick goes above and beyond mastering content and concepts. He strives to focus on the ‘why’ of learning. His experiences as a student teacher and tutor allow him to create an engaging, student-centered, and thought-provoking environment where students feel safe to ask questions, self-reflect and analyze their learning, and freely make mistakes. Nick aims to deliver lessons tailored to students' academic, emotional, and social needs, so students go beyond mastering content to become independent, resource, and critical learners.
Nick has worked with students ranging in age from 6-24 years old. He specializes in the sciences, math, test prep, and essay writing. He also has success with tutoring in English, history, grammar, and study skills/organization.

SARAH
My name is Sarah. I am a second grade teacher in Utica Community Schools, and for this, I am tremendously grateful. Those 25 enthusiastic smiling second graders light up my heart every single day. I truly love my profession as a teacher (and tutor)!
Upon graduating from Saginaw Valley State University in December 2011, I received my Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, two minors in integrated science and english, and also obtained an endorsement in early childhood development (ZA). During my college experience, I was elected as the Secretary for the State of Michigan’s Student Council for Exceptional Children; I initially joined because I sought to learn more about special education. I soon learned many accommodations and techniques that I now apply to all of my students alike. I had the opportunity in presenting many professional development series and I strongly feel such unique experiences have contributed to my ability in reaching all diverse learners.
Soon after graduating at SVSU, I enrolled in Oakland University’s Master’s program, and two years later, earned my Master’s Degree in the area of literacy education. For my final thesis, I presented research-based data on how interactive notebooks aid in the long-term memory retrieval of students (Most specially, English language learners).
For fun, I often can be found spending time with my boyfriend and our three beautiful dogs, Isi, Bear, and Romeo. This past summer, we took all three of our dogs on a week long hiking trip in the Upper Peninsula (They each even carried their dog food in their very own puppy hiking pack)! This past summer, I also hiked 55 miles across Michigan’s National Park, Isle Royale. It was one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve seen to date. Last, other interests and personal hobbies I have and enjoy include reading, writing (working on writing my own children’s book currently), yoga, basketball, tennis, gardening, doing home projects, and spending time with my family and friends.
I look forward to another great school year, and I hope to help as many children as I can exceed their greatest potential!

LINDA
Linda has effectively served as a teacher, tutor and personal advisor for individual students across multiple learning styles, often with academic, physical and/or emotional challenges.
When children struggle with learning differences setting them significantly or even slightly apart from peers, their sense of self changes - often, not for the better. My passion for providing educational support came not only from a background in clinical psychology and psycholinguistics, but from my real-life struggle to find our first-born daughter the best school and learning experience that would support her unique challenges.
This led to years of engaging in varied teaching systems and learning to navigate school administrations for numerous students and widely diverse different-learners; including my own three children.
Today, Orton-Gillingham and Saxon Educational methods are core examples of effective tools I’m certified in the use of to successfully address a variety of learning styles, disabilities, and general education challenges. I also work in programs designed specifically for cognitive skill development.
I feel very fortunate to be involved in supporting learners, and respectfully continue to feel wonder at the inner workings of a child’s mind as learning pathways are revealed through every new challenge. It’s an amazing process of change to witness and be part of. The real reward is in realizing a student’s improvements and successes, and enjoying the fun of it along the way. I love what we do!
A graduate of University of Michigan, BGS, MAT, I’ve also attended UCLA for continuing education. I hold Orton-Gillingham Teaching Certification, have completed Professional Cognitive Coaching Training, am a member of IMSLEC; Friends of Different Learners, and Dyslexia Advocacy Group, Birmingham; as well as being a nationally ranked USA Target Archer.
